Our Love StoryHamster's boring life turned colourful on 21st February 2007, the day Hamster met Mouse. It was the fourth day of the Chinese New Year, the first working day after the holidays. Hamster got up early that morning, eager to get into work to finish a job on hand. He needed to scan some documents and e-mail them to Africa. As there were no scanners in his own department, Hamster had to finish this task in the Marketing Department. Hamster did not want colleagues to mistake him for going over to get red packets, so he tried his best to finish scanning speedily and return to his desk as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the document was not saved properly and he had to go back to the scanner a second time. Most of the colleagues had got into the office by now and had started working. An HR colleague led a newcomer on a tour around office and introduced her to everyone. Hamster stared at this lady who had shoulder-length hair and was wearing a grey suit with a long straight dress. The word that sprang to Hamster’s mind that described this new lady’s dress code was "old-fashioned". Her head was bowed slightly and she followed meekly behind the HR lady. A scripture from the Bible floated into Hamster’s mind: "The girl was very beautiful ……. Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to learn whether or not the LORD had made his journey successful."[i] Hamster asked himself: is she the one, Lord? Where is she from? Another planet? The HR colleague introduced her to Hamster, saying, "This is Hamster." Hamster replied in haste, "I don’t belong to Marketing. You don’t need to remember me here." Hamster ran back to the International Ministry Department in order to see this old-fashioned lady again. "This is IM Department, he is …." The HR lady paused and waited. "Hamster, I remember," the lady answered. The impression given to Hamster on this first encounter was: she remembers me. Still, Hamster grinned, "Grey suit with long straight dress. So old-fashioned!" Hamster managed to arrange lunch with Mouse. It was not long after 1st April 2007, when the new plastic HK$10 note was issued. After lunch, Mouse wanted to give the lunch money back to Hamster, but he insisted that he was treating her. "Then take this new plastic HK$10 note as my thanks. I’ve not spent it, because it’s the first and only one I’ve got," Mouse said. Hamster has kept the note up to now. Hamster began asking God’s will – is she the one? It took Hamster one full year in prayer while he waited for God’s answer. The first date, in Hamster’s view, was Good Friday of 2008. Hamster invited Mouse to an event at his church. They had dinner afterwards. Hamster proposed to Mouse on New Year’s Eve, 2008. The Big Day is on 28th November 2009. Amen!!
